PERSONAL STATEMENT

Members of the ISST Community, I am pleased to accept the nomination for the position of Coordinator of Training. I am humbled by the importance of this role in helping to guide the training of Schema Therapists and strengthening the integrity of the Schema Therapy Model and the ISST.  I would l to take on this challenge to support excellent training in Schema Therapy.

As a founding member of the ISST, I have been involved in some capacity in the training of Schema Therapists since 2007.

When Wendy Behary was the Coordinator of Training & Certification I led the webinars educating members of the guidelines and expected practices of a ST Trainer & Supervisor.  Under Joan Farrell’s leadership, I have been a member of the Training & Certification Committee and have helped review the American Applications for ST Certification.

For the past couple of years, I have been the chairperson of Supervisor Skills Development Committee that developed a series of 12 hours of training in trainer-supervisor skills.  I offered a one-day version of this workshop in Barcelona at the ISST Summer School and at ISST Amsterdam with Jeff Young.  This training will be available in January of 2019 under my and other committee members leadership via webinar.  I was also a member of the Case Conceptualization Committee that worked with Jeff Young for two years to produce the new Case Conceptualization for the ISST in the spring of 2018.  I have a been an active ST trainer and supervisor with the New York/New Jersey Training Program with Wendy and Jeff for the past 10 years.

I am committed to working with the Executive Board and the other members of the ISST to build on the excellent work of Joan Farrell.

I will be dedicated to improving the quality of ST training and supervision and enhancing communication among countries and training programs with the end goal of supporting and learning from each other.  I also hope to respect the autonomy of each country and training program while being watchful that the norms and guidelines that ensure the integrity of the Society and the ST Model are honored.

The ISST has been a vital source of my development as a Schema Therapist.  I am grateful for its existence and for the current and previous Executive Boards who have worked hard to continually build a foundation and facilitate growth.  Through the ISST I have formed close bonds and I have been professionally nourished.  And it is from this place of gratitude that I would very much like to bring my knowledge, experience and commitment to the ISST and the values of Schema Therapy to this position of Coordinator of Training with the intention that the ISST will be an even better source of learning and community.
