PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am pleased to accept the nomination for the position Vice President of the ISST.

The Schema Therapy Model has been a central part of my professional growth since before the inception of the ISST. I have participated in all of the ISST Conferences from Stockholm to Berlin to our very recent, highly successful and inspiring conference in Vienna. I feel very fortunate to have watched the ISST expand and develop through a series of growing pains and exciting growth spurts. It was through the hard work of the current and previous boards, the contributions of the subcommittees, and the participation of the members that the ISST has become an excellent global residence for professional and personal development and meaningful connections. The ISST continues to emerge to be an even stronger, more inclusive and highly integrated professional community, and I would very much like to take part in this important endeavor.

I have played a number of roles in the Schema Community. I have been a ST Supervisor & have assisted in many ST Trainings since the beginning of the ISST. I was also Chairperson of the ISST Schema Therapy Supervision and Training Network and have led a number of ST Supervisor and Trainer Webinars. For the past 4 years I have worked on the Schema Therapy Training and Certification Committee, assisting with the certification process of Schema Therapists in the United States. Serving under Joan Farrell, I am currently leading two ISST Schema Therapy Subgroups: One committee dedicated to updating the Schema Therapy Case Conceptualization Form, and another Committee which is crafting a workshop for Schema Therapists who want to be trained to become Schema Therapy Supervisors. Both the (new) Case Conceptualization and the Supervisors Workshop should be available for the ISST Community in early 2017.

I am very clear that a successful ISST Conference is essential for the continuing growth of the ISST and for the increasing prominence of the Schema Therapy Model. This is a psychologically intelligent, humane and compassionate model and I know the Conference should reflect these qualities. I am delighted to oversee and collaborate in the organizing and the delivery of an amazing 2018 conference. I have a longstanding history of establishing clear goals for a variety of projects and enlisting others to share in the vision and the task of making goals become a reality.

As stated earlier, I have a proven track record with past ISST commitments as well as the current ISST Subgroups that I lead. I have also worked on 2 conference committees for Conferences held in New York City for Therapists and Patients dealing with Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse. I am also a founding member of the New York Center for Emotion Focused Therapy.

These commitments have provided me opportunities to hone my administration skills targeted to make meaningful contributions to the larger psychotherapeutic community. I am now eager to form an energetic and enthusiastic 2018 conference planning “team” whereby I can lend will my knowledge, experience and passion to the ISST Conference 2018 in Washington DC.
