Schema Therapy Institute of London

Agnes Sullivan

Schema Therapy Institute, London

The Schema Therapy Institute, London was set up in 2009, by Agnes Sullivan LCSW Advanced Certified Schema Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer, who was trained by Dr. Jeffrey Young, founder of Schema Therapy, in 2007/8. Although Agnes had been a highly experienced psychotherapist for many years working as a psychodynamic, integrative practitioner, she was frustrated by the limitations of these models in helping some clients to obtain the change they wanted. She saw how Schema Therapy provided a straightforward, direct approach that goes beyond getting in touch with feelings and gaining awareness, and offered the key to helping clients who needed more specialised help.

“I have worked for 30 years in a variety of clinical settings including private practice, hospital, forensic and community locations and have always sought to give patients the help that they need. We founded the Schema Therapy Institute, London in 2009 to provide training and supervision in Schema Therapy, collaborating with other Schema Therapy Institutes, internationally to increase the effectiveness of therapeutic practice and improve outcomes for patients with personality disorders.”

Clinicians working at the Schema Therapy Institute in London have built a strong foundation working in the community. The centre specializes in individual, couples, family and group therapy. Some therapists are also accredited in Emotion-Focused Therapy combining this approach with Schema Therapy in couples/family work.

The Schema Therapy Institute provides certification training and supervises clinicians working towards standard and advanced certification. The Institute also teaches undergraduate and graduate level trainees in Schema Therapy and is developing treatment programmes for use in a variety of voluntary and statutory settings including churches, women’s refuges, and prison services.
