The International Society of Schema Therapy

The ISST was founded in 2008 at a conference in Coimbra Portugal.  The aims of the society are:

1). To promote training in schema therapy at a high professional level by specifying a curriculum for training and to provide accreditation and certification for trainees who show that they have met these requirements

2). To promote the development  and dissemination of new developments within schema therapy by holding regular conferences and training events

3). To provide a structure for networking among schema therapists and those seeking to become certified as schema therapists.

Since then ISST has held conferences every two years:

  • 2010 in Berlin
  • 2012 in New York
  • 2014 in Istanbul
  • 2016 in Vienna (INSPIRE brand introduced)
  • 2018 in Amsterdam
  • 2020  -  This was to have been in Copenhagen but due to the coronavirus pandemic this was replaced by an online Virtual Summit.
In other years, the ISST has held symposiums:
  • 2015 in Saint Petersburg
  • 2017 in Barcelona
  • 2019 in Edinburgh (ENLIGHT brand premiered)
