ISST PROPOSED ADDITION TO THE STATUTES SETTING LIMITS TO THE NUMBER OF TERMS AN INDIVIDUAL MAY SERVE ON THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Motivation: It is normal for organizations like ours to limit the number of terms anyone may serve on the Executive Board as this ensures that there is a fresh flow of perspectives and ideas into the running of the organization. Such limitations were omitted from our original statutes, but we are recommending that they be incorporated now. However, because we are currently heavily reliant on the expertise and time of two of our Executive Board members, the Treasurer and the Public Affairs Co-ordinator we are asking that this change only come into effect after the elections that will take place immediately after the conclusion of this General Membership Assembly. This will allow us time to restructure our organization so that we are not so heavily reliant on a few very hardworking and dedicated individuals.

Recommended change:

Statutes #8

Add (7) as follows and renumber the subsequent paragraphs.

(7) Executive Board members may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms on the Board whether in the same or different positions.  No-one may serve more than two consecutive terms as President or Vice-President. A former Executive Board member who has served three consecutive terms and who has not been on the Board for at least one term may, after that, stand for re-election but may then only serve a maximum of two terms. In exceptional circumstances these restrictions may be temporarily relaxed by a majority vote of a General Membership Assembly.
