Restating the new ISST Policy for Schema Therapy Supervisor and Trainer Certification

26 Apr 2019 1:38 PM | David Edwards

Members of the ISST:

Some of you are probably aware that the requirements for certification as a Schema Therapy Supervisor and Trainer have changed.  This email is meant to restate & clarify these changes. (This information is also posted on the ISST website.)

Previously, an Advanced Schema Therapist could immediately attend the ST Supervisor/Trainer Webinar right after Advanced Certification and then become certified as a ST Supervisor and Trainer.

Now the rules have changed so that all Advanced Schema Therapists who started training on January of 2014 or later must fulfill the following requirements before applying for Schema Therapy Supervisor/Trainer Certification.

  1. Three years of clinical work after receiving Certification in Advanced Schema Therapy.
  2. During this 3-year period, at least 10 patients are treated with Schema Therapy for a duration of at least 6 months (reporting of this based on the honor system).
  3. Of these 10 patients, 4 must have a diagnosis of some form of personality disorder (also based on the honor system).
  4. After this 3-year period, Advanced Schema Therapists must participate in a 12-hour Supervisor Skills Development Workshop Webinar.  Currently, this workshop is set up as 4 separate 3-hour online workshops provided over the course of 4 months.

After all requirements are completed, an Advanced Schema Therapist can apply for Certification as a ST Supervisor/Trainer.

These 4 workshops will be provided in 3-hour installments beginning in September 2019 and completing in December 2019.

Stay tuned for the dates of these very important workshops!

Warm Regards, Jeff Conway, ISST Training Coordinator (jconwayny@gmail.com)
